First of all, thank you to those people who took part in the recent Poll - it was great to get some input from members of the group, albeit a very small representation - but hopefully the percentages do reflect the group membership as a whole!

Secondly, I want thank those people who wrote to me and said how they value this group as one of the best, and gave me every encouragement to somehow keep it going.  The result is that I have decided to stay as the group's Founder (my arms ache terribly from being twisted so far up my back!) and the Administrators have all agreed to stand with me.  We have however made some changes that will affect all members...

SUBMISSIONS

Because all of us in Admin are busy people, we were finding the number of submissions to the group overwhelming - and I gather many of you found the number of images from the group appearing in your message centres equally overwhelming despite those being only a proportion of the full number submitted!  This inevitably resulted in many of you switching off the deviations to the group, and quite honestly that defeats any objective in trying to gain more favourites from people in the group itself for obvious reasons.  This happens.  I have had to do the very same thing with many groups I belong to as well, simply because they don't keep the number of accepted submissions down to a remotely reasonable level.

We have therefore now set the Member Submissions at just TWO - 2 - per week.

Now please note the following:

:bulletgreen:  when you select works to submit, please only submit the works you know to be your best ones;
:bulletgreen:  please do NOT submit works where you have indicated in your artist's comments that you don't consider the work to be your best, or that you are not very happy with it, or you feel it is still unfinished.  These will be rejected with no reason given;
:bulletgreen:  please do NOT submit similar works at the same time.  We need variety in the galleries;
:bulletgreen:  it would be a good idea NOT to submit both your chosen works on the same day, but instead, leave a couple of days between.

ALTERATIONS TO THE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES - AND REMINDERS

Remember, when we assess submissions, we try to do so objectively, but when all is said and done, all art is subjective to a greater or lesser degree, and there will be times when the voting Administrators will decline a work simply because it does not accord with our (collective) taste in art.  If a reason for decline is given - on request by the submitter - the reply will be made on behalf of all who voted.  Whenever we can we leave comments for one another if we vote No.

:bulletgreen:  One significant change is that we will no longer be accepting submissions of designs for clothing or deviant-wear.  This was a unanimous decision made by the Admin staff.
:bulletgreen:  Please be aware that this Group enjoys the more Classical style of art and photography in general, which is why we have certain rules about what not to submit.  You need to make sure you know what the Submission Guidelines say, and not try to bend the rules or get away with something else.  (I'm sorry to say this, but there are some people who will try and get away with just about anything and who obviously have never even looked at the Submission Guidelines!)
:bulletgreen:  I know it's very hard to have a submission turned down - oh yes I do!  We all do!  And doesn't it sometimes feel terribly unjustified?  But honestly, if you're not happy with the decision, it's no good writing back and putting your case as to why our decision was wrong.  Nothing will change the decision.  In some cases people have even become abusive in their behaviour and when that happens, the final recourse is to kick them from the group, as we have a zero tolerance towards this kind of thing.  None of that is necessary, as all we need do is to see what the Guidelines say and try to choose something more appropriate next time.  It may even be that your particular style of work is not suited to this group after all.  That need not be a problem. :)
:bulletgreen:  Please be aware that in portrait photography, the submission must be made by the photographer - not by the model.  In fact, we require all submissions in every area to be made by the originating artist/photographer.
:bulletgreen:  Please do not request works from your friends or from people who's work you have favourited.  If you see something you would like us to look at for consideration, please send the Group a Note with a thumb of the deviation.  If we like it we will request it.
:bulletgreen:  You will see that the Submission Guidelines are set out in General first, then in Specifics for each category in our gallery.  It is very important that you keep yourselves up to date with all of this.  Naturally if you are not a photomanipulator for example, you don't need to be continually reminded of what is required for that particular category.  Or if you only do fractal art, you simply need to be aware of the General Guidelines and the ones that are specific for the Fractal Galleries.  So although there seem to be a lot of rules, the General ones are for everyone, but the specific ones are only applicable to the area in which you work.  It isn't complicated in reality.
:bulletgreen:  In all cases, where third party stocks have been used but no direct links to those actual stocks are given, the submission will automatically be declined with no further explanation.  The Guidelines are very specific about this requirement, which is mandatory (except in cases where a stock artist has since removed said stock from their pages).  We will not go to other sites where it is necessary to become a member first before seeing a sample of the original stock either.  Normally this isn't the case, but sometimes it is, and we do not have the time or inclination to do this.

Finally, please ensure you take a fresh look at the Submission Guidelines NOW, before you proceed to submit anything fresh - just to ensure you are familiar with the requirements applicable for your work.  You will find a link to these guidelines at the top of every Journal page, and on the Home page of the Group.

I hope you will all be able to continue to enjoy being members of this group for a long time to come - and do please consider switching on the deviations if you currently have them off as there should now be far less to look at.  Thank you for your patience. :heart:

I'm very pleased you have decided to stay. It would have been very sad if one of the best groups on DA had folded. :thanks:
